Sunday, February 16, 2014 - Shopping!

Well well - so it had been my plan for sometime to go to New Market. A colleague was so kind to accompany me. When I mentioned that I would like to purchase a radio, instead of New Market we went to BCS computer City first:
"This building has four-storied covered floor space of more than 100,000 square feet of shopping complex with above 156 outlets for retail and wholesale of exclusively computer hardware, accessories, peripherals and related products. Thus, the BCS Computer City is not a mere shopping complex but the IT Hub of the country." and not a single radio to be found. A dying technology one would think...

Off we went to:

Bashundhara City - opened to the public on 6 August 2004, the mall is 21 stories tall, of which 8 are used for the mall and the remaining as the corporate headquarters of the Bashundhara Group.

The mall has space for 2,500 retail stores and cafeterias and also possesses a large underground gymnasium, a multiplex movie theater, a top floor food court and an indoor theme park.

The fully air-conditioned shopping mall with rooftop gardens is considered a modern symbol of the emerging city of Dhaka. Bashundhara City is one of the largest shopping malls in south Asia. Up to 25,000 people visit the mall daily.

It is the first western-style mall in the city. The cost of the building was more than $100 million; construction started in 1998. The building has been described as an indication of the severe division between the middle class and the lower class.

It is one of the showcases of development in Bangladesh.

Es lebe die Heimat!

On 13 March 2009, the top floors of the Bashundhara City complex were damaged by a fire. The blaze started around 1:30 pm, after Friday prayers, on one of the top floors. Most of the offices were empty, since Friday is the first day of the weekend in Bangladesh. One person, a security guard, was killed as he leaped off the top of the building in an attempt to escape the fire. Seventeen others were injured. The chief security officer of the building was rescued from the roof by a Bangladesh Air Force Bell-212 helicopter.

Well wouldn't you just love to do your dessou shopping - advised by this lovely shopkeeper?!

Muslim country or not - up tied or not - they sure like to have fun here...

A lucky moment on our way back:

This duo is running a promotion for a new lavish place.

No fun on the main road - with cars overtaking and that bloody honking all the f*** time.

Yeah, well - so at Bashundhara City I bought this to be my radio.
When I unwrapped it I found out that a manual does not come with it.
So I went online and found out, that this is not an official product by dr.dre.
It is  some kind of Chinese free style rip off...
Doesn't work as I want it either - and I overpaid - oh well - Welcome to Bangladesh! :D

Looks pretty though :p
