Saturday, April 05, 2014 - Wuyishan

With a wild "Hip hip Hurray!" We celebrated arriving in Wuyishan.
We kind of backtracked into the mountains. And it was so worth it!

We had booked accommodation with the YHI receptionist in Tunxi. But when we arrived there it turned out to be not tempting at all. So we asked the Taxi driver to bring us to a different hotel, the host of our bar in Xiamen had recommended to us. Instead the driver brought us to some hotel at the end of the road. He had the opinion that the hotel we choose as second choice was not suitable. ;)
Finally he drove us there. The location was just perfect. The facilities simple but many loving details of the surroundings made up for it. :)

A rally special place.

Special enough that we stayed in the room despite shared bathroom and above spider as roommate which we rescued in a cup as we did not wanted to share our accommodation. ;)

After getting settled in we were on our way to the entrance of the national park we came for. Together with Jonathan a guy from London, with an Malaysian mother, now studding Chinese in Beijing.

Some inviting tea hut we came across on our way deeper into the park.

The national park stretches for 500 km with altitudes between 1,000 and 1,500 meters. Its highest summit, the Huanggang Mountain is 2,158 meters with the highest elevation in Fujian. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Fish, an abundance of big fish in this beautiful water...

I did not expect to find this colour in China.

cave-feeling

And off we went on a stunning hike:

The river is called something like nine-bend river as meanders in a 7 km long gorge through the mountains and you can follow the nine turns floating along in a boat and so get to know the landscape with its 36 rock pillars on the waterway.

Made in Germany ;)

Well after such a big hike we were sure hungry enough to eat an ox. As you can see - we could have - as nearly everything is on offer:

The fresh food on display really helps to bridge the language barrier. Since we do not have that in Europe I now have an Idea how hard it must be to travel for people who can not read any of the menu's...

Despite being able to choose the ingredients one never quite knows how the dishes will turn out. But compared to Bangladesh it was so wonderful to be able to order anything without having to fear not being able to eat it because it is to spicy.

Yup having lunch on the open road on a random table next to some gate.
Dude it was awesome...

Well a typical super market with "Dosenfraß".

Taken on the bridge we had to cross to get back to our hostel.

One can not really see it. But this is a wild rose hanging in the air on wires with an patio underneath.

Impressions

You can kind of see the mountains and the national park starting behind the village.
Unfortunately the picture is a bit hazy.
